Truly AmaZine

The First Professional Zine Agency

AmaZine is managed by 2 people:

  • Aly, 28yo, has a degree in Math-finances from a top engineering university in France (INSA) and worked at a bank HQ in ALM (asset liability management)

  • Monee, 28yo, formerly a software engineer who went to the same university, is now mostly an artist and a writer (hence "by fans for fans") who opened her creative business in 2021 and has been managing it with Aly since 2022

Our Projects

Our services :

Running with the money once or twice is simple, but building trust with people is no easy feat. AmaZine being an agency of great ambitions, we decided to play the hard mode.So rest assured, working with AmaZine means you will see your artists fairly paid at the end. Proof of payments can be given anytime.

Finance Mod

As a Finance Mod, here is what AmaZine will cover :

  • Finances for bundles with pricing recommendation (via a detailed Excel for transparency)

  • Set up of multiple scenarii to know what the worst case scenario is

  • Tax management and change fees

  • The use of our professional bank account, with VAT deductions for merch orders and access to large B2B retail only available to professionals

  • Management and setup of the BigCartel (with access given to Head mod)

  • Contributors' pay at the end of the project

  • Donnation to charity if that's what was decided

This also means we won't ever ask anyone for money.

In this regard, please note that we ask of the Head Mod to comply with our minimum pricing recommendation.
See FAQ for more details.

Manufacture Mod

As a Manufacturing Mod, we will handle :

  • Communication with the team for merch specs

  • Quotes for every scenario from the finances

  • Negociating with the suppliers

  • Ordering the merch

  • Quality checking

  • Managing of disputes with suppliers

We also have experience with a large panel of merch from charms to plushies, metal bookmarks, enamel pins, and more

Shipping Mod

As expected of a Shipping Mod, we do :

  • Packing of orders - with the cost of packing material covered by us

  • Shipping to a large range of countries*

  • Leftovers handed to head mod or shipped to each artist

*Due to our carrier's destination restrictions, we can't ship to these countries:
Russia, Belarus, Yemen ,Syria, North Korea, Afghanistan, Somalia, Israel

Chose what suits you best

Naturally, it means AmaZine fills the spots for shipping, finance, and manufacturing mods, so we won't be getting the contributor pay for those roles.

FAQ

QuestionsAnswers

What do you mean by turnover ?
We ask for 15% or 20% of the turnover, so that means we'll keep 15%/20% of the total sales.
For example : let's say a zine sold for 3 000$ of turnover (meaning, all sales, including shipping. It's the total of money the zine cashes in). We'll ask for 15% or 20% of these 3000$, so if it's 15%, we'll keep 3000 x 0.15 = 450$. If it's 20%, we'll keep 3000 x 0.15 = 600$.

This is different from the profits : profits are the money you earn at the end of the project, so it's basically the turnover minus all fees, manufacturing costs, shipping costs etc...

What AmaZine offers is to let you handle all profits as you see fit. We'll send the profits to contributors if that's what was decided, or we can give all profits to charity. Doing split-profits/charity is also something other Zines asked of us. Since our commission is based on turnover and not profits, you can freely decide how you use it, and you can think of us as a fee similar to stripe/paypal (that's what they do, they take a percentage of sales)
.

What do you mean by "pricing recommendation"
It means that we will set a minimum price for each bundle. This price represents what should be paid by the final customer for each artist to be paid fairly for their hard work. We ask the head mod to comply with this minimum price. However, the Head mod is free to set prices higher than recommended if they wish to.

How do you handle taxes ?
If your project's preorders start in 2024 and we can order the merch before the end of 2024, then the Zine won't have to pay much taxes. If we can make it so the preorders, merch order AND contributors' pay happen in 2024, then the Zine won't have to pay any taxes, and only AmaZine will have to handle their own taxes. But in case, AmaZine always anticipate taxes in the Excel sheet of the projected finances. So even if the schedule ends up being late and the project overlap with the next year, we'll still be able to oversee and handle taxes.
Do you offer any kind of guarantee in regards to trustworthyness?AmaZine will submit to every head mod a contract, in which each party will write what is necessary for the project to run smoothly.
Will you give us news on the projects once the pre-orders are closed ?Of course, we will regularly update you on the discord group. Appart from that, the contract includes a clause asking of AmaZine to give a report at least every 3 months

What are your hard limitations ?
We don't handle projects based on Harry Potter. We might refuse a project if we feel it might lead to financial losses, or if the head mod has a past history of harassment or failed zines. We will not work with projects that promote hate speech, zionism, AI or NFT
